Tema, May 07, (Mrs Gyebi-Adjei) GNA -- A steel bender in Tema who also operates as a land guard, was on Friday sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Tema Circuit Court "B" for demolishing an uncompleted building valued over 26 million cedis.
The accused, Kojo Quaye, pleaded guilty to causing unlawful damage and was convicted on his own plea.
With him in the dock was Ms Sylvia Dodoo Hagan, a caterer, who was also facing charges of aiding and abetting the crime.
She pleaded not guilty to the charge of abetment of crime and the court, presided over by Mr Stephen Teye, granted her bail in the sum of 100 million cedis with a surety to re-appear before it on May 18, this year.
Six other persons who are said to be involved in the case are however, could be traced and a bench warrant has been issued for their arrest.
Chief Inspector Martey Teye told the court that the complainant in the case Mr Emmanuel Borketey Teiman, has a piece of land in Tema Community 18, which he was building a four bedroom house on. He said on April 3, this year, the accused and his gang of eight strong men went to the site and demolished the fence wall of the building, which he said was reported to the police.
According to the Chief Inspector, whiles investigation was on-going Quaye and the same gang went to the site on April 28, this year, and demolished the whole building.
A report was made to the police and Quaye was arrested and in his caution statement, he admitted the offence but said they were only hired by the second accused, Sylvia Dodoo, who claimed the land belonged to her, to do the job for her.
