Pastor Mensah Otabil who was chair of the defunct Capital Bank board has admitted last week was a bad week for him.

According to him, the Monday which saw the Central Bank announce the shutdown of Capital and UT banks for insolvency, was a “fortunately a good day”.

“Monday was a fortunately good day for me. I was fine on Monday. Tuesday was a very bad day for me. Wednesday was a very terrible day. You go through this stuff and you wonder; wow, what a week!

“…This Tuesday, I was not in a frame of mind for a sermon. This was not sermon Tuesday. Wednesday definitely wasn’t a sermon Wednesday. But on Thursday, I got up, I picked my laptop, I opened it and Thursday, I put my ideas down like I normally do and all of a sudden, I just felt like a cloud just left my shoulders,” the influential preacher told his congregation on Sunday.

Capital and UT banks have been taken over by the GCB bank after a successful bidding following the “impairment of their capital,” as announced by the Bank of Ghana.

Meanwhile, the GCB bank has assured it will retain staff of the defunct banks despite growing fears they will lose their jobs.
