Lawyer threatens suit against Multimedia over breach of Mahama’s privacy

Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe

A private legal practitioner, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe has threatened to sue the Multimedia Group for invading the privacy of the immediate past President, John Dramani Mahama.

According to lawyer Tamakloe, Article 18 of the 1992 Constitution injuncts anybody from invading the privacy of any Ghanaian citizen.

“So from beyond the constitutional injunction against invading the privacy of the citizenry; did they (Multimedia) obtain permission from the police service before operating and also did they seek additional permission from the former President before operating the drone?” He queried.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the request by the former President to keep his official residence, the No. 3 Prestige Link house at Cantonments in Accra as part of his retirement package.

Although the former President withdrew the request, the issue resurfaced following a drone footage captured by Joy News of the property, which was originally meant to house Vice Presidents.

But in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Gold Power Drive Monday, the NDC Greater Accra Deputy Youth Organizer said they will drag the Multimedia Group before the National Security Council and the National Media Commission for evading the former President’s privacy.

“In the case of the former President, the National Security secretariat must be alerted for breach as he still remains an asset of the country. Also same with the media house like Joy fm, a complaint will be lodged against the same media to the National Media Commission,” he stated.

The Lawyer was reacting to his post on Facebook, in which he asked the NDC to be more proactive in addressing issues affecting their own, adding that the “gentle politics must stop.”
