Lecturer to contest NPP primaries in Bongo constituency

Bolgatanga, April 25, GNA- Mrs. Diana Aburiya Asuure, a lecturer of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic in the Upper East Region, has filed to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries in the Bongo Constituency.

Mrs. Asuure, 41, in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga on Saturday, expressed worry about the relegation of women to the background even though they formed the majority of the population.

She pledged to advocate women's empowerment when given the nod and said it is regrettable that only a few women occupy positions in governance.

Mrs. Asuure, who was elected unopposed to contest the primaries, said she would seek micro finance assistance to help women in the constituency to undertake viable economic ventures to support their families.

She promised to initiate programmes to sensitise the public on teenage pregnancy, which results in dropout of girls from school. Mrs. Asuure said: 93I will also fight to help reduce negative cultural practices such as widowhood rites, female genital mutilation, and expensive funerals among others"

The NPP parliamentary aspirant said she would work hard to improve education, agriculture, health and the road sector if elected to Parliament.
