Lecturer urges African leaders to collaborate towards continental emancipation

Accra, Feb. 10, GNA - Dr James King, a visiting Fulbright Lecturer at the University of Ghana, has called on African leaders to collaborate and work towards the emancipation of the continent.

The Visiting Lecturer called on African leaders to take inspiration from the relationship that existed between Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, a Pan-Africanist and first President of Ghana and Dr W.E.B Du Bois, also a Pan-Africanist, to chart a strategic direction for the continent and work towards realizing it.

"This would give birth to strong voices on the continent as pertained during the pre-independence era leading to its total emancipation, "he said. Dr King was speaking to the Ghana News Agency after speaking on the topic "Nkrumah and the Bu Bois Connections at forum that formed part of activities marking the "Black History Month" celebrations in Accra. The forum was collaboration with Kwame Nkrumah Centenary Celebration Planning Committee and the W.E.B Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture to recognize the contributions of Pan-Africanists towards the emancipation of the Black race.

Dr King said even though both personalities differed in terms of how to achieve the Pan-Africanism cause.

He said even though Nkrumah believed in the use of the masses and Du Bois believed in the use of the elite, they both remained focused in the pursuance of their agenda, something which should spur current African leaders on to collaborate and achieve continental emancipation. Black history month is celebrated every February and the two institutions have planned series of lectures to mark this year's event.
