Ledzokuku-Krowor awards scholarships to JHS students

Nungua, Aug. 21, GNA - Eight Junior High School graduates, including two females, on Friday received scholarships from the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) to further their studies at the Senior High School.

The Assembly is committing a total of three GH¢3,500 towards the education of these brilliant but needy students, after a careful selection interview.

Mr Daniel Amartey Mensah, Municipal Chief Executive of the Assembly presented the scholarships in the form of cheques and said it was instituted by LEKMA to give meaning to government's commitment to make education more accessible to all.

The scheme, he said, would provide a social safety net to the underprivileged within the Municipality, by not only making quality education accessible to them, but by also strengthening their human resource capacity.

The MCE said the Assembly would sponsor 10 students at the beginning of every academic year.

He congratulated the beneficiaries for studying hard to merit the support, and warned that the facility would be withdrawn when a student's performance fell below expectation and or he or she exhibited gross misconduct.

Mrs Rosetta Addison Sackey, Municipal Director of Education, advised the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the facility. "You need to excel, and not to play with your books, but to make friends with them", Mrs Sackey admonished the beneficiaries. Mr Raphael Borketey, Presiding Member of LEKMA, assured students within the Municipality that the Assembly would increase the number of beneficiaries as the years went by.

Master Ernest Manu, a beneficiary, on behalf of his colleagues, assured the Assembly that they would put in their best in order not to it down.
