The Leprosy Aid Committee has paid glowing tribute to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his immense support to lepers and leprosaria in Ghana.
Dr. Bawumia, who serves as a patron of Lepers Aid Ghana, is renowned for his humanitarian support to members of the Weija Leprosarium. On New Year's Day, he invited members of the leprosarium to his residence for lunch.
In appreciation of his benevolence over the years, the Lepers Aid Committee presented a citation of honour and appreciation to Dr. Bawumia.
Presented by Father Andrews Campbell, the Resident Director of the Weija Leprosarium, the citation recognized Dr. Bawumia’s "dedication to the welfare and dignity of people affected by leprosy in Ghana."
"Your selfless contributions have set a standard of service that resonates across Ghana and beyond and have brought renewed focus to improving the lives of leprosy sufferers," the citation noted.
"In gratitude and respect, we honour you, Your Excellency. God bless you for your love and dedication."
Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude to the Lepers Aid Committee for the citation and pledged to continue his support as a patron of the Lepers Council.
He was later joined by his wife, Samira, as they served lunch to the cured lepers.
The Vice President reflected on his journey, noting that eight years ago, when he moved into his official residence as Vice President, he celebrated his housewarming with the lepers. As he prepares to leave office, he said it was only fitting to hold another session with his friends.
