Security consultant and academic Professor Kwesi Aning has described the last eight years under the Akufo-Addo administration as a challenging period in his professional life.
Speaking during an interview on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, as monitored by MyNewsGh, he revealed that his ability to freely express himself and perform his duties had been significantly curtailed, leading to what he termed a period of “hell.”
Reflecting on his experiences, Professor Aning stated: “My expectation is to be able to speak the way I’ve always spoken. Earlier on, I could speak and write, and I went to bed in peace. Nobody threatened to cut my salary, and nobody threatened to call my former bosses to dismiss me.”
His remarks highlight the challenges faced by professionals operating in politically sensitive environments, where their independence can often conflict with the expectations of those in power.
Aning, a seasoned expert on security and governance, further expressed his hopes for a better working environment under the new administration of John Dramani Mahama.
“Give me the space to do my work, to help you, and to help the people of Ghana. I mean, it’s very straightforward,” he said, emphasizing the importance of professional autonomy in contributing meaningfully to national development.
