Former President Jerry John Rawlings, Founder of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has on the occasion of Easter, together with his wife Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, extended warmth greetings to “Ghanaians and all peoples of the world.”
A statement issued by the couple, said “Many of us have spent the last month in a period of fasting, prayer and sober reflection and on Easter Day we will feast and make merry in remembrance of the resurrection of Christ,” continuing that “Christ endured for mankind but more importantly Christians should recognize it as a period for meditation on our individual and collective contributions to our families, society and country.”
According to the Rawlingses, “as a nation, we need to move away from practices that threaten to destroy our values of truth and integrity. As Clarence W. Hall once said, “Easter says you can put truth in a grave but it won’t stay there”.
They urged all to “show love and friendship to our neighbours, our communities and the disadvantaged,” and enjoined all celebrants, “especially the youth to celebrate in circumspection and moderation to prevent unfortunate incidents.”
In conclusion, the former president stressed “As I said before let us seek God’s guidance in honest, unpretentious prayer of supplication during this festive period: Happy Easter!”
