'Let's bolster poll process' – Nana

Nana Akufo-Addo - NPP Presidential Candidate Nana Akufo-Addo - NPP Presidential Candidate

Political parties must learn lessons from the governing National Democratic Congress’ recently held presidential and parliamentary primaries to strengthen Ghana’s democracy, flagbearer of Ghana’s biggest opposition party Nana Akufo-Addo has said.

President John Mahama got 95% endorsement at the polls. There were isolated incidents of violence, which forced the postponement of polls in some constituencies.

Congratulating the NDC for its elections, Mr Akufo-Addo said in a statement that: “I hope lessons from last weekend will help all of us to appreciate the need to strengthen our electoral process and enhance the quality of our democracy.”

“Electing representatives of the people in a Republic such as ours is key to deepening our democratic values.

“In that regard, I commend the members, officers, and the executives of the NDC for organising and participating in this essential democratic exercise to elect their presidential candidate, as well as parliamentary candidates, for the various constituencies across the country,” the former Attorney General said.

The three-time flagbearer said he is looking forward to having a “healthy, incident-free, democratic, free, fair, and credible contest” in next year’s elections.
