The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Miss Benedicta Naana Biney, has said there was the need to do more to strengthen the management and supervision in schools.
There should also be transparency and accountability in the utilization of financial resources allocated to them.
Miss Biney was speaking at the opening of the 2012 Ashanti Region education sector review workshop in Kumasi.
The one-day meeting brought together Directors and other officials of the GES in the region to brainstorm on ways of enhancing the quality of education.
The GES Director-General said everything should be done to ensure that the learning needs of school children are met by teachers.
She also called for some equity in the distribution and access to appropriate teaching and learning materials.
Miss Biney appealed to all stakeholders to accept to play their expected roles well to raise the quality of education.
The Regional Education Director, Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, urged teachers to continue working hard and with dedication to improve academic performance in the schools.
Parents are anxious to see their children perform and teachers could not afford to disappoint them, she said.**
