Founder of the United Progressive Party (UPP) Akwasi Addai Odike has predicted there will be no election come December 7, 2020, if the novel coronavirus persists, MyNewsGh.com reports.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a vaccine for the virus can only be ready possibly in the next 12 months or more.

“I’m depending on that information to conclude that, per the way things that are happening, even the calendar of the Electoral Commission has been affected.

Currently, the time table the EC is supposed to work with will not be effective. If God does not deliver us from this lockdown and the virus continues to spread before December, then it will be difficult for us to conduct elections”, Mr. Odike said in a radio discussion on Kumasi base radio Angel Fm Tuesday monitored by MyNewsGH.com.

“In an unlikely event when we get to September it will be impossible for EC to conduct the elections”, he added.

Constitutionally the mandate of President Nana Addo will end on January 7 while elections are supposed to be held on December 7.

Mr. Odike who in series of discussion has said this on various media platforms further urged lawyers and the Supreme Court to interpret the law to people of Ghana before the date comes in order to avoid confusion among the various political actors.

“I will plead on constitutional lawyers, Supreme Court to come out early to explain the constitution to us”, he pleaded.
