Let’s involve industry in curriculum development - Rev. Prof Obeng

The President of the Presbyterian University College of Ghana (PUCG), Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng, has call for the involvement of industry in curriculum development of the tertiary institutions to enable them produce graduates with the capacity and skills for the job market.

He said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the eighth congregation of the college at Abetif which was organized under the theme ‘Graduate unemployment, the role of government, universities and industries’’.

Prof Obeng said industry had its requirements whiles the universities also taught based on curriculum and for the gap to be breached there must be a collaboration between the two to ensure that graduates are oriented into the industrial system whiles they are still at school .

He said the challenge was not created by the universities but the changing of times and the demands of industry, adding that as a country there was the need for determination to catch up with the rest of the world.

Prof Obeng said it was important to upgrade and equip the universities for them to step up training programs from theoretical to practical and students to have industrial attachments.

He called for determined efforts to grow the economy to create industrial expansion and job openings for new graduates.

Prof. Obeng said there were many opportunities in the country and advised the new graduates to explore avenues available and use the expertise acquired to create jobs for themselves.
