Accra, March 14, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills has called on Ghanaians to combine fervent prayers with positive attitudes and actions and make God the Supreme Ruler of Ghana for His continuous blessings.
President Mills said: "Let's continue to pray so that God Himself becomes President of our nation." He entreated Ghanaians to continue to work hard; maintain discipline and honesty and be transparent in all their endeavours.
He said the nation had a lot to be grateful to God for because the many blessings she enjoyed were not by any human might or power, but by Divine mercies and kindness.
The President, who was in a thankful mood, made the call at this year's National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at the Independence Square in Accra. It was on the theme:" Celebrating God's Goodness". Muslims held a similar thanksgiving service last Friday.
He announced that the one week national prayer and fasting, which was observed this year after the Independence Day, would next be held rather in the week prior to the Independence Day. President Mills urged Ghanaians to continue to read their Bibles and pray even after the national prayer session, saying: "This event should not be the end of our Bible reading and prayer life. We must continue to seek the face of the Lord." The Service was attended by many of Ghana's leading Clergymen; Ministers of State; the Diplomatic Corps; Traditional Rulers and their Elders and a cross-section of Ghanaians. Preaching the sermon, the Reverend Dr Nii Amoo Darku, Member of the Council of State and Co-chairman of the Planning Committee, gave thanks to God for the nation of Ghana, and for the achievements of the Government in its first year in office. He observed that God had been good to Ghana in ensuring peaceful elections and the subsequent international recognition for its democratic governance, the historic visit of US President Barrack Obama, the peace in the country, tolerance and accommodative politics. Prayers were offered for the Executives; Legislature, Judiciary and th= e Media.
