The Member of Parliament(MP) of North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has slammed Members of Parliament(MPs) for the ruling NPP over their refusal to show up in Parliament after Speaker, Alban Bagbin recalled sitting on the 7th of November, 2024
During an interview on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa described the actions of the NPP as childish likening their behaviour to the popular cartoon characters ‘Tom & Jerry”
He questioned why Members of Parliament cannot solve the pending issues as adults and have to conduct themselves in the manner things have turned out to the disappointment of the civil society.
The ranking member on foreign affairs lamented about the pressing issues the country is currently facing which include Galamsey, the outbreak of cholera and unemployment issues which ought to have been crtitically looked at.
“The Afrobarometer report shows that 41% of Ghanaians are concerned about unemployment. All these ‘Tom and Jerry’ games, how does it solve the unemployment crisis? Do you know Cholera is back in our system with a bang? We are in a health crisis. People are dying. Galamsey, Li 2462. We have pressing issues, urgent issues”, he complained.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin adjourned the house indefinitely due to the absence of business for lawmakers to deliberate on, following the failure of the Business committee to meet and prepare the necessary agenda for the floor.
The recall session, initiated by the Majority caucus, had been expected to address several critical issues.
However, as the NPP caucus failed to appear in the Chamber, Speaker Bagbin expressed disappointment, noting that the lack of their presence stalled proceedings.
