Let’s support central gov’t in development - Okyenhene

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, Okyenhene and the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, has called on chiefs in the region to co-operate with the government to get the needed development for their communities.

He advised the chiefs to avoid partisan politics to be able to get along with every government that came to power.

The Okyenhene made the call at the end of year general meeting of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs at Koforidua.

He expressed concern about the slow pace of the economic development of the country and called for more efforts to create decent jobs for the people.

The Okyenhene called for strong leadership in governance and establishment of strong state institutions.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, Eastern Regional Minister, said chieftaincy continued to play a crucial role in the governance of the country adding that traditional authorities were major stakeholders in the implementation of government’s policies.

He said government was also committed in ensuring that the road network in the region was improved through the funding under the Cocoa Roads Rehabilitation Project.

He assured the chiefs that the government had selected some roads in the region for rehabilitation under the cocoa roads rehabilitation project which include the Suhum-Asamankese, Nsawam-Adeiso-Asamankese-Kade, Koforidua-Tafo and Apedwa-Kyebi-Bunso roads.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways is also working on a comprehensive programme for the rehabilitation of major roads in the region next year.
