Let us work together to protect the peace - Brew-Riverson

The Right Reverend Dr. E. H. Brew-Riverson, former Administrative Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, has called on Ghanaians to share in the responsibility of protecting the nation’s peace.

He said it was important for political party leaders, civil society including the media, religious bodies, chiefs and youth groups to accept to work together to prevent confusion as the country headed for the polls.

This was contained in a statement he issued in Kumasi titled: “Promoting peaceful elections and justice” a copy of which was made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He said since all the political parties sought to provide the right leadership to make things better for the people, there should be no reason for them to be hostile and antagonistic towards each other.

He said they did not have to fight one another or promote violence.

The Rt. Rev. Dr. Brew-Riverson, who is also a former Deputy-Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), said families, communities and the nation, were more important and bigger than any political party's interest.

“Ghana is one and we should not allow parties to divide us. We should not allow the victory of the other party to afflict and affect our peace. Ghana is the only winner notwithstanding who emerges the victor.”

He encouraged all to love Ghana by respecting and loving their neighbours.

He underlined the need to preserve the understanding and cooperation between the religious leaders, especially Muslims and Christians.
