Lets protect the peace we have - Trade Unionist

Accra, Nov. 8, GNA - A trade unionist on Monday appealed to workers to help protect the "peace we have" by being vigilant against anything that would ravage the country.

Alhaji Bawa Salifu, Deputy-General Secretary of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU), said the scars left behind by civil strife in neighbouring Sierra Leone should provide enough evidence for everyone to abhor division, hatred and other tendencies that could plunge the nation into armed conflict.

Alhaji Salifu was speaking to the Ghana News Agency on his return from Sierra Leone, where participated in an international workshop organised by the Geneva-based Public Services International (PSI). "Personally, I saw a devastated Freetown where every single decent building is either ransacked, perforated with bullets, some crushed down with bombs," he said adding that the situation clearly showed the effect of war on a nation.

"I noticed misery written on the countenance of people, some of whom have lost their bread winners, loved ones, wives and families." He said currently there the country had no electric power.
