Liberia’s Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Williametta E. Saydee-Tarr is set to speak at the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) 2019 in July in Accra, Ghana.
She will be on the special High Level Panel dubbed “Gender Ministers’ Panel” which would address the topic, “Africa’s Women Empowerment in Retrospect: The Gains, the Challenges and the Way Forward”.
The Panel will also feature other Gender Ministers from other parts of the continent including Ghana, Cameroon and Uganda. The essence of the High Level Panel is to give the Ministers, an opportunity to explain the gender policies of African nations to various stakeholders and share knowledge for a unified and more dynamic approach to the issues of empowerment of women and girls on the continent.
Hon. Williametta E. Saydee-Tarr is an ardent advocate for women, youth and children’s rights. She served as the founding Executive Director for Nobel Laureate Leyma Gbowee’s Peace Foundation Africa (GPFA) where she fundraised and coordinated worldwide scholarships for women and girls.
She also has a background in Restorative Justice and Advocacy with which she combines national and international advocacy efforts as an African community advocate in the diaspora with nurturing strategic partnerships in her home country.
She holds a Masters in Advocacy and Political Leadership from the University of Minnesota in Duluth, MN, a Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies from the University of Saint Thomas.
The 2019 edition of the Young African Women Congress is scheduled to take place from Sunday 21st July to Thursday 25th July, 2019 in Accra, Ghana under the theme, “Grassroots Mobilisation for Women’s Empowerment: Young Women Lead”.
It will feature well renowned women leaders across the globe who would impart knowledge to young African women delegates through keynote presentation, panel discussions and group brainstorming sessions among others.
Delegates get the opportunity to contribute to discussions and are also treated to a full day tour within the host nation to promote Africa’s heritage and tourism.
YAWC is opened to all African women within the age limit of 18 and 45 who are interested in making impact within their immediate environments and influencing the continent as a whole.
