Lion Sets Records Straight On Rawlings

If for any reason leaders and members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are dreaming of the possibility that the Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President Jerry John Rawlings, will campaign for them in the 2012 general elections, then they better wake up from their excitement of self-delusion because that will never happen, according to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpone Katakanso, Hon. Afotey Agbo.
The NDC MP said the NPP is doing everything in its power to make Ghanaians believe that the former President is seeking refuge in the opposition party since his own party, the ruling NDC, is chasing him out, but said that can only be an illusion on the part of the Nana Akufo-Addo-led party.
The Kpone Katamanso MP, who is also known as Lion, has told The Catalyst in an exclusive interview that the NPP is under the false impression that the former President hates the NDC to the extent of neglecting it in the next elections to their advantage. He pointed out that the desperation of the opposition NPP is what is making members have wet dreams about the possibility of the former President becoming an integral part of the NPP campaign in 2012.
The MP, who is a close ally of the former President, said the NPP will soon wake up from their fantasy and realise that their hope is completely dashed.
The Kpone Katamanso MP said “I have the feeling and the belief that he [Rawlings] will campaign for the NDC based on the discussions some of us have decided to have with him. There are some of us who are closer to him, some of us who are ready to die for him and with him. And we do not want a situation where we will not feel like getting closer, he is a human being.”
According to the MP, he has been with the former President since age 14 when his grandfather adopted him. This, he noted, explains the strong bonding and affection he has for him. He said he is just like a true brother to him.
The MP stressed the importance for people like him to lead the call on the former President to let sleeping dogs lie. He was confident the NDC Founder would heed their call and play his usual role in the NDC’s next election campaign.
Asked whether it is rather not late in the day for people like him to try to assuage the anger of the former President regarding the concerns he has severally expressed about the Mills-led government’s inaction on certain matters of concern to him, the MP responded in the negative. He said there is still time before the 2012 elections campaign kick-starts properly.
According to Hon. Afotey Agbo, NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo, should forget about winning the 2012 elections because the signs, of another thrashing of him at the polls in 2012 by President Atta Mills, are boldly written on the wall by the good works of his government. He has advised the NPP flagbearer, to curb his unbridled desire to become president of Ghana at all cost because that cannot happen.
Hon Afotey Agbo emphasised that President Mills will lead the NDC to victory once again in 2012 and that it is important for the NPP to stop having wet dreams.
