A 60-year-old woman has given a detailed account of how she was subjected to brutality by a police officer who claimed she had violated the lockdown rules.

Speaking to Ahotor FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, a teary woman said she had only gone to the market to buy foodstuff for her shop when the policeman abused her.

The audio has drawn wide criticism from a section of the public, many of whom believe the security services are taking advantage of the lockdown to abuse citizens.

“They started beating me with a stick without asking me anything, I wasn’t selling I waiting for my children so that we can pick up a car, they were three and asked me why I’m standing here without a word from me they started beating me up with sticks”, she told the reporter.

President Akufo-Addo imposed a two-week partial lockdown in certain areas including the Greater Accra Metropolitan area and Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area effective Monday to stem the spread of the infectious virus.

There have been reports of security personnel deployed to enforce compliance of the lockdown meting out some sort of punishments to citizens for flouting the president’s directive.

Some videos making rounds show uniformed soldiers brutalizing people.
