The First Lady Lordina Mahama has called on chiefs, elders and community leaders to support the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Integration monthly in the National sanitation day clean up exercises by helping to sensitize residents about the need to improve public health.

This First Lady noted that health is a public concern since every individual needs to stay healthy in order to live a normal life so the surest way to get everybody involved in ensuring clean environment and healthy living is through regular clean up exercise.

The first lady made the call when she interacted with the people of Nsuaem and supported the Tarkwa Nsueem Hospital in the Western Region with medical supplies.

Mrs. Mahama indicated that all over the world, preventive methods of promoting public health are being advocated instead of curative. In this regard she believe it is important for the public to take an interest in improving their health by making sure their immediate surroundings are conducive to healthy living.

“This will reduce the incidence and burden of disease on families and the government”, she added.

She said government being fully aware of the economic viability of Tarkwa Nsuem has brought many development projects to this municipality, in anticipation that it will open up this place to more investment and economic activity.

The provision of these projects by the government she said is very critical and ultimately will benefit the residents of the municipality and the national economy.

According to her in recent years, government has made massive investments in the healthcare sector.

“This has involved expansion of health facilities, provision of new equipment to health facilities across the country, construction of new regional and district hospitals, polyclinics, health centers and provision of CHPS compounds in the rural areas of Ghana’’ she noted.

The First lady believe this has enhanced healthcare delivery and has improved significantly Ghana’s human development indicators, placing Ghana only second to Cape Verde in West Africa. She firmly believe that health workers will support the effort government have embarked on.

The Aspiring Member of Parliament for TarkwaNsuem, Kwame Dzokoto explained that the donation to the hospital was due to a request made to the First Lady by him.

According to him he realised that the hospital lacked some facilities hence his request to the First lady to support the hospital. These he indicated are some of the things he and the NDC government will do when voted for come December 7.

He expressed gratitude to the first lady for the donation saying the items indeed will be beneficial to all who visit the hospital.

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, the Western regional Minister, Paul Evans Addo and the National Women Organizer of the NDC, Hajia Zaynab Mahama, accompanied her.
