Kumasi, Feb. 3, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court on Monday fined five lotto sellers arrested for selling banker-to-banker tickets at a total of 15 million cedis.
The five all pleaded guilty to operating illegal lotto and will go to prison for two years each in default. They are Yaw Owusu, Kofi Peter Nartey, Clement Mensah, Kofi Appiah and Yaw Peprah.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Regina Kesewah told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that police personnel and a special task force of Asare Original Pay All mounted a special exercise to arrest illegal lotto operators who use the numbers of Asare Original Pay All to operate their businesses.
She said the team went various kiosks of the accused persons to stake lotto and they found the operators were using unauthorised lotto papers and were then arrested.
