Accra, Feb 15, GNA - Valentine Day celebrants disappointed gift shops owners in Accra as they experienced low patronage on Monday, February 14.
Most gift shop owners in Accra stocked their stalls with gift items such as red flowers, alcoholic drinks, red dresses and under wears, hampers and Valentine Cards anticipating higher patronage. "Though most Ghanaians have become aware of the day, fewer people are buying gifts for their loved ones", a sales girl at Placito Gift Shop, Adabraka, told the GNA.
A tour of some gift shops in the metropolis by GNA showed that though many people visited the shops, only a few bought presents. February 14th is Saint Valentine's Day when people show their love by exchanging gifts.
A cross-section of the public the GNA spoke to said although they appreciated the essence of the day, not many could afford to buy gifts. "They are too expensive and there is no money," said Rolland Anokye, a sales representative.
Prices of Valentine cards range between 10,000 cedis and 50,000 cedis.
