Lufthansa suspends flights from Accra

Accra, July 15, GNA - Lufthansa German Airlines says it has been forced to suspend its operations between Accra and Frankfurt following the expiration of its approval for daily flights between the two cities on Saturday July 14, 2007.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Ms. Babette Melling, Marketing Manager of Lufthansa, the airline was informed by the Ghanaian Ministry of Aviation that government approval for the airline's daily flights to Ghana had expired and it (airline) would be allowed only two flights a week connecting Accra with Frankfurt".

"Unfortunately however, the airline cannot accept the option of two flights a week, since this is not an economically viable proposition". Lufthansa truly regrets being forced to take Ghana off its destination map from 15th July under these circumstances.

She explained that the last flight, LH 565, departed on Saturday, 14th July, from Accra to Frankfurt (via Lagos) arriving in Frankfurt on Sunday morning.

Ms Melling said Lufthansa and Ghana have enjoyed a long and dedicated commitment of 40 years and are happy for the collaboration."The flights connections to Lagos/ Nigeria remain unaffected," she added. She noted that Lufthansa would endeavours to keep inconveniences caused thereby to the minimum, saying that passengers booked on flights after 15th July will be provided with alternatives. 15 July 07
