Even before the flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2012 elections has finished licking the wounds he suffered at the polls, an ace musician who sung a hit song for the 2008 NPP campaign, has had one of his old songs turned into a taunting song against Nana Akufo-Addo.
The musician is heard as though telling Nana Addo that Ghanaians do not love him, but are only squandering his money.
The song, which is in Twi, is enjoying massive airplay in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi and Accra.
Meanwhile, information available to The Herald suggests that Nana Addo is heavily indebted with huge sums he borrowed to prosecute his campaign.
Insiders have also revealed that some family properties were sold to finance the campaign with the hope of reclaiming them upon victory, which never came.
Daddy Lumba, known in private life as Charles Kwadwo Fosu, in the run-up to the December 2008 Presidential polls bounced onto the political scene by creating a danceable tune dubbed “Nana oye winner oo , Nana dea he is born to succeed ooo”.
The music became the driving force behind the 2008 NPP campaign with both the aged and the youth falling in love with it, singing and dancing to it as well.
Interestingly, the same Daddy Lumba shortly released another song, entitled ‘ayehunhu’ to wit “it is scary”, indicating how Nana Addo had lost the election to the late John Evans Atta Mills.
When Nana was finally declared the loser, Daddy Lumba came back with another song “Nana wuo” literally meaning Nana Akufo-Addo is dead.
Daddy Lumba is arguably Ghana’s most meticulous profane musician. But his songs in the last two elections were more of a political message rather than entertainment.
