MDPI Development training ends

Accra, Sept 23, GNA - A two-week development training course organised by Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI) for high level Public Personnel has ended in Accra with a call on the Institute to market itself well to attract more clients. Mr Kofi Gyetsua Ankuma, Course Prefect, in a report said in spite of the fact that the Institute had qualified lecturers; it could not market its activities well enough to encourage more workers to participate in its programmes.

He said the courses were well designed and participatory and appealed to the Ministry of Manpower, Youth and Employment to assist the Institute to start awarding Diplomas instead of the mere certificate. About 60 participants were trained in Office Management and Administration, Stores Management, Human Relations and Communication and Finance and Accounting for Non-Finance Managers. Mr T.K.A. Bibilazu, Director of MDPI, said the courses were designed to assist ind ividuals and organisations to enhance productivity and skills. He said the MDPI was established in 1976 to promote managerial capacity at all levels and in all sectors of the Ghanaian economy and also to conduct consultancy services for client organisations to improve effectiveness and efficiency.

"We are also to conduct micro and macro studies on the Ghanaian economy and provide a basis for economic policies," he said. Mr Bibilazu said every year they train between 1,300 and 1,500 high level personnel and called on the Government to facilitate work at the permanent site at Baatsona to enable them to have enough office accommodation to train more people. The Director said that because work on the project was slow it was opened to encroachment and some of such cases, which were sent to court since 2000 have not been called.
