..... Multiple sex, deception and abandonment
THE DEPUTY MINISTER FOR MINES AND ENERGY Mr. Simon Abingya was slapped with a writ at his office last week by a young unemployed SSS dropout who claims to be carrying the twice married Minister?s baby.
The Minister who has acknowledged an acquaintanceship with the lady, Ms. Adams, has denied impregnating her, but is expected to appear before a high court in Accra to contest a claim for ?200 million.
The amount represents punitive damages for ?deceit and destruction of the future of the plaintiff by seducing her with promise of employment through deceit and succeeding through subterfuge in having sex with her several times in a hotel on the Accra Tema road?, according to court papers.
The young lady is also seeking a court order to compel Abingya to make ?immediate financial provision for the plaintiff for the maintenance of the pregnancy pending the birth of the child? until a blood test is carried out to determine the paternity of the baby.
According to the statement of claim, the Minister ordered an abortion when Ms. Adams visited him at his office on February 8th this year and told him that she had missed her period. Abingya furiously declared that he had had too many children with different women already so she should go and terminate the pregnancy.
When she went to a hospital for the abortion, Ms. Adams claims that she was told by the doctor that she could not survive an abortion because of her health conditions. She is anaemic.
?Plaintiff contends that the defendant (Mr. Abingya) has since refused to look after the pregnancy even though defendant knows that plaintiff is unemployed?, the statement filed by counsel for Ms. Adams, Mr. Ray Kakraba Quarshie of Orkomfor Chambers.
Tracing the history of the relationship, Ms. Adams said that the first time she met with the Minister in the company of her sister was on December 14, 1999.
The Minister told her then that she looked like someone he knew and asked for her mother?s name. That day, he gave her ?100,000 to enable her ?cope with her problems?.
Two days later, Simon peeled off ?1,000,000 to her to pay for a computer related course.
On January 8th when they rendezvoused at a hotel, Simon tried to have sex with her, but he could not ?because the plaintiff was in her period and so they just drank some beer and left.?
On 15th January, the defendant phoned Ms. Adams and told her to take dropping and meet him at the Tema Police barrier where Simon was waiting and on arrival the ?defendant picked plaintiff to the same hotel, doused her with beer and made love to her twice?.
?On 23rd and 27th January, the defendant again, took plaintiff to the same hotel at Tema-Accra road Police barrier and on both occasions had sex with her?.
After that he gave her US$100 and informed her that she was going to Bolgatanga and would visit her mother.
He kept his word and bought a double bed and mattress for her mother, but it got into the wrong hands. An auntie collected the gifts instead.
Ms. Adams is still without a job and has tried several agencies including the Women and Juvenile Unit of the Ghana Police, FIDA and even the Ghana Legal Aid Committee for assistance on the matter without assistance.
The action she has initiated is with the assistance of Legal Aid.
Mr. Abingya is married to a stunning young beauty who is said to be one time Miss Upper West.
He is alleged to have broken up with his former wife who is an assistant Headmistress of a school in Accra.
He has denied responsibility and condemned Chronicle?s earlier report on the scandal in radio interviews.
