Accra, July 21, GNA - Major Courage Quashigah, (rtd) Minister of Health, on Thursday said the Health Ministry had recently completed a health centre at Dambai In the Krachi East District and this was going to improve health care delivery in the area.
He said the Ministry was aware of the policy to provide at least one functional hospital in every district and it was, therefore. "pursuing this laudable policy.
"In that respect, a district hospital will, therefore, be provided at Dambai when resources become available," the Minister said in Parliament.
He was responding to a question from Mr Wisdom Gidisu, NDC-Krachi East, on when the Dambai Clinic would be upgraded to a hospital. Major Quashigah said the Krachi Hospital, would meanwhile continue to serve the Krachi East District until the Dambai Health Centre was finally upgraded to a district hospital.
The Minster said the Volta Regional Health Directorate had posted a District Director of Health Services to the Krachi East District in addition a District Public Health Nurse and other core members of the health management team, who would start work before the end of July. Responding to another question, the Minister said the Juapong Health Centre, in the Volta Region, currently under construction, would be completed in August this year.
Major Quashigah said there were some problems with negotiations for funding of the project coupled with misunderstanding over the siting of the Juapong Health Centre and this was responsible for the delay of the project.
