Winneba, April 30- GNA-The Member of Parliament for Awutu/Senya, Mr. Oppey Abbey, and the District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Mr. Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quayehave jointly inaugurated four development committees for the district at a ceremony at Winneba.
They are, Avian Flu, Road Safety, Ghana School Feeding Project (GSFP), and Kasoa Market Development committees.
Addressing members of the committees, Mr. Oppey Abbey drew their attention to the importance the Government, Parliament and the entire Ghanaian society attaches to the dreaded Avian Flu, the increasing fatal road accidents in the country as well as the new School Feeding Project issues, and strongly appealed to them to play their parts very well to ensure appreciable results. He said though the work entrusted to them was sacrificial, he has no doubts in his mind that they would put in their best to ensure success on all fronts.
Mr. Abbam-Quaye assured members of the four working committees of the District Assembly's full support and encouragement and charged their leaders to ensure regular interactions with his office so that the logistic and other needs of the committees were put in place in good time for their efficient operation.
He said members of the Avian Flu committee would be visiting poultry farms and RAMSAY site in the district frequently to inspect and monitor their operations, especially migrant birds at the Muni Lagoon RAMSAY Site in Winneba.
This, the DCE hoped, would ensure early detection of any dangerous development that might erupt in any poultry farm in the area and the RAMSAY site for prompt action.
Road Safety Committee members would also organize regular meetings with drivers and union leaders in the district to educate them on road safety issues and also liaise with the police to device means of checking reckless driving on the Winneba-Accra and Winneba-Agona Swedru highways to minimize the rate of road accidents in the area. Measures, the DCE further stated, would also be put in place to meet emergencies during accidents since the area is accident-prone one. He said the Kasoa Market Development Committee would deal with issues needed to promote the speedy growth and economic development of the market and traders who patronize it.
Mr. Kwesi Esseku, the Presiding Member of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly, thanked leaders and members of the four committees and expressed the hope that they work assiduously to merit the confidence reposed in them by the assembly.
