Ntribuoho (Ash), Dec. 27, GNA - Mr Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has called on all those involved in educating the people on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to explain it properly to enable them understand its usefulness. He said even though the scheme has taken off in almost all the districts, many people were not fully aware of its operation and benefits.
Mr Owusu-Ansah, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre West, was speaking at a fund-raising rally organised by the people of Ntribuoho in support of the construction of a library and teachers' quarters on Christmas day.
The Deputy Minister said the scheme like any insurance was not for free and members were therefore expected to pay a small amount so that in the event of sickness or an accident the scheme could support the person.
"The scheme is very good and it will save us from sudden illness or accident and therefore urge those who have not registered to do so immediately and also encourage others to register".
Mr Owusu-Ansah expressed concern about the deplorable conditions of road network in the constituency and said he was in constant consultation with the Ministry of Roads Transport to help in the rehabilitation of roads in the constituency.
He advised the people to exercise restraint for the government to undertake a systematic planning and development of the country, since all sectors of the economy could not be developed at the same time. The MP explained the capitation grant scheme to the people and said the government will allocate more money for the construction of more educational infrastructures and therefore, asked the people to enrol their children in schools.
The Reverend Samuel Afenyie-Amankwaah, Kwabre District Director of Education, urged parents to encourage their children to cultivate the habit of reading.
He underscored the importance of education and said the government was doing all that it could to raise the level of education in the country and therefore, it behoved on parents to reciprocate the effort by also investing in the education of their children. Nana Kofi Mensah, Odikro of Ntribuoho called on his people, especially the youth to endeavour to support the development activities the community was undertaking, so as to bring more development to the community.
Nana Mensah appealed to the government and NGOs to come to the aid of the community to ensure the successful completion of the projects.
An amount of four million cedis was raised with the MP donating two million cedis and 100 bags of cement to the community.
