Accra, April 20, GNA- The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Mr Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, in collaboration with ZoomLion and some opinion leaders, have undertaken a clean-up exercise at Abbosey Okai as part of activities to round off the Easter festivities at the weekend.
About 50 youth led by the MP and workers of ZoomLion who were deployed to undertake the exercise desilted choked gutters and cleared refuse around Fan Milk, Kaneshie-Mamprobi trotro station and the spare parts dealers centre.
In an interview after the exercise, the MP said the rainy season would soon start and urged the people to help solve the incidence of floods and other disasters arising out of their disregard for the environment.
He said the exercise was an ongoing programme to help reduce some of the sanitation related diseases which were sometimes created by the people themselves, to ensure cleanliness throughout the constituency. Mr Benjamin Tetteh, Zonal Supervisor of ZoomLion in the Ablekuma District, who expressed worry about persistence disposal of refuse by residents into drains appealed to the people to desist from throwing refuse into the gutters to ensure environmental cleanliness.
A 72-year-old retired Naval merchant, Mr Patrick Adu Sackey, who took part in the exercise stressed the need for a regular environmental cleanliness so sufficiently sensitise the people to know the harm they causes by polluting the environment. He said the laws on environmental cleanliness should be enforced to the letter to change the attitude of the people.
