Jennifer Akyewaa, the 19-year-old Senior High School student whose boyfriend lost consciousness after he was allegedly assaulted by Member of Parliament of Afram Plains South, Hon. Joseph Appiah Boateng, has stated that she has nothing to gain by telling lies about the MP and maintains the parliamentarian did indeed assault the victim physically.
According to her, it was by dint of hard work that she has been able to make it into the SHS and would, therefore, not want to tarnish the image of the representative of Afram Plains South in the august House of Parliament.
“..after all, my mother is not alive, and I have struggled to be where I am today not because I tell lies, but by working hard and I am not going to start today because I want the MP’s money,” Miss Akyewaa said sadly.
She was stating her version of a publication on Tuesday’s edition of the Chronicle Newspaper with the headline “MP Beats Rival into Coma”.
The privately-owned newspaper published on Tuesday that the MP, in his attempt to scare off a young man from a young girl he was also interested in having an affair with, beat up the boy mercilessly until he went into coma.
The MP, however, denies any such incident and accuses his detractors of seeking to blackmail him with what he describes as a “cooked” story.
“…It’s not true; it’s a cooked story…They want to blackmail me”.
Narrating what led the incident, Jennifer Akyewaa recounted in an interview with Adom Fm that the law maker met her on her way from school and asked for her phone number after introducing himself as the MP of the area.
“I refused, but he saw a phone in my hand and questioned who it is for, but I told him it belongs to my brother. He then asked to have it. He saved his number on it and asked me to call him. As I stood with the MP, David came by so I told him to wait in a distance”.
“He (MP) questioned why I was associating with ‘low lives’ like David…the MP then gave me back my phone, and we parted ways, but on my way, David called me back to ask for another classmate’s number, so I went over to meet him. Upon reaching there, a scuffle ensued between us (David and I) because he also wanted to have my phone, which I refused,” she said.
She further revealed that as the argument escalated, Hon. Boateng spotted them, became furious and headed in their direction.
“When he got to where we were, he began raining insults on my boyfriend…he (MP) demanded to have the phone, but David hesitated in releasing the phone which angered Honorable the more. He then grabbed the phone from David’s hand, raised him up and smashed his head against the wall…he then turned away from the scene whiles still verbally abusing me,” Jennifer said.
“I then called for help and the boy was revived with the help of his brothers,” she narrated.
However, Hon. Joseph Appiah Boateng has categorically denied all the allegations leveled against him describing them as a well calculated attempt to tarnish his image.
