MP-elect for Gomoa West outlines programme

Apam (C/R), Dec 15, GNA - The Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa West, Mr Joe Kingsley Hackman, has said the problem of unemployment would be his priority.

Mr Hackman, who is a Lecturer in Building Technology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, said the MP-elect said he would also place emphasis on vocational and technical education especially in the Gomoa District.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Apam on Sunday, Mr Hackman said he would use his long stay outside Ghana to persuade investors into the District to create jobs for the youth.

He promised to initiate programmes to help build the capacity of farmers and fishermen to adopt improved technology in their businesses to ensure good returns to alleviate poverty to boost economic activities in the area.

Mr Hackman expressed gratitude to the electorate especially supporters and executives of the NPP for giving him their mandate to represent them in Parliament and gave the assurance to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him.

He commended Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, the National Democratic Congress candidate in the election and the incumbent MP for conceding defeat and called for her co-operation to move the area forward.

Mr Ben Adjei Afful, Constituency Chairman of the NPP, expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the party's victory and appealed to people to put the acrimony, which characterised the election behind them and to rally behind the MP and the government for the accelerated development of the area.

"With the elections over, let us do away with party affiliations and unite to develop our area," he said.
