Ejura (Ash), Jan 13, GNA - Alhaji Issifu Pangabu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejura-Sekyedumase is constructing three-unit teachers' quarters in five communities in the constituency at a total cost of 110 million cedis.
Alhaji Pangabu said the projects were being funded from his share of the MP's common fund and named the beneficiary communities as Ebuom, Awabere, Mesuo, Kantankani and Kyenkyenkura.
The MP was speaking to the press at Ejura on Wednesday, when the Board of Trustees of the Ejuraman Education Endowment Fund presented cheques for 7.934 million cedis to cover school fees for six students in secondary school, who are beneficiaries of the fund. They are Sampson Abebrese, Benjamin Okyere, Solomon Agyare-Gyan, all boys and three girls, Farida Misbawo, Hanna Atah-Akyeama and Naomi Ndego. The MP is currently sponsoring the education of a female science student and has also distributed 5,000 exercise books worth 13.5 million cedis to some selected basic schools in the Ejura communities. Alhaji Pangabu said he has purchased 10,000 exercise books at the cost of 28 million cedis for distribution to some selected schools in the Sekyedumase area.
Presenting the cheques covering the first and second terms to the students, the Right-Reverend Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi and a member of the Board, said the fund caters for only brilliant but needy students and covers only school fees. He assured the students that the fund will cater for their education in the senior secondary school but warned them that the sponsorship will be withdrawn, if they do not perform creditably. Nana Kwaku Sarfo, Ejurahene, commended the Board for the good work it was doing and hoped they would continue to work hard to bring more students on board.
He urged parents to encourage their children to work hard to benefit from the fund, while they also support it. Nana Akua Tiwaah, Queenmother of Ejura advised the students to work hard so that the money being invested in their education will not go waste.
