MP institutes scholarship for women to enter universities

Awutu Bawjiase (C/R) Sept. 17 GNA-The Member of Parliament for Awutu-Senya constituency, Mr. Oppey Abbey has earmarked greater portion of his MP common fund to pay the fees of women from his constituency who would gained admission to the universities.

Mr. Oppey Abbey, who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the 15th Annual General Meeting of the Awutu Bawjiase rural banks at Awutu Bawjiase said he had already given financial assistance to some few women from the constituency to the universities and he was still ready to assist more.

The MP said since the fund was meant for the development of the constituency, he had decided that when the greater part of the fund was invested in the education of women to enter higher education, they would also be able to educate their children to become useful future leaders. He has therefore called on women from the Awutu and Senya areas who have gained admission to the universities to get in contact with him for the assistance.

Meanwhile the Awutu Bawjiase Rural Bank has instituted a scholarship scheme for secondary education in its catchment's area as a social responsibility. The chairman of the board of directors of the bank, Mr. Emmanuel Osei said at Awutu Bawjiase that the scheme would be fully operational in the ensuing year.
