MP supports Ashaiman police with a vehicle

Ashaiman, July 14, GNA - Mr Emmanuel K. Teye, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman on Wednesday presented an Opel Omega vehicle valued at 35 million cedis to the Ashaiman Police to facilitate crime combat in and around Ashaiman.

Making the presentation at a function on Wednesday at Ashaiman, he said 14 million cedis out of the amount was realised through an appeal for funds, while the remaining was from his share of the MP's Common Fund. He said the gesture was in fulfilment of a promise made earlier on when he spent a total of 34.1 million cedis to finance the renovation and expansion of the cells, construction of a fence wall, installation of telephone service and provision of furniture for the Divisional Police Headquarters at Ashaiman.

The MP promised to complete two abandoned storey buildings for the police personnel, while plans were advanced to construct a permanent building to house the Ashaiman North Station at Lebanon Zone Two. Mr Teye stated that, since the security agencies had the onerous duty to protect the nation it was expedient that the Police Service got support from philanthropist and organisations in order to work efficiently to complement government's efforts to provide logistics.

He appealed to the personnel to use the vehicle with registration number GT 4691 P and the other materials judiciously.

Mrs Agnes Sikanartey, Tema Regional Police Commander, received the keys to the vehicle and promised to ensure that it was handled with care by using it for patrol duties to help reduce the crime wave at Ashaiman. She appealed to the public to volunteer information about criminals to the police, while establishments must also come to their aid to house the police personnel.
