MP supports Seniagya community with potable water access

Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effiduase/Asokore Constituency in Ashanti, has broken the ground for the construction of GH¢ 30,000.00 potable water project in Seniagya and surrounding communities in the Sekyere East District.

The project being facilitated by the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), would provide potable water to all homes and public facilities such as schools, hospitals, among others in the community.

Residents of the beneficiary communities, have only one source of water-a central borehole, where they commute long distances from their homes to fetch water.

It involves the repair of old pipe lines and facilities in the communities and the establishment of new ones.

Dr. Afriye speaking at a durbar held at Seniagya, a farming community in the District, to break the grounds for the initiative, said the reason for his contribution and commitment to the cause, is to aid the nation to attain the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs), especially the goal 6.

The goal 6 is geared at ‘‘ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all’’.

The MP said the project, expected to be completed by the end of December, this year, is also focused on helping to improve the wellbeing and livelihood of the local people especially farmers, women and children, who were mostly vulnerable.

It is also an intervention to prevent communicable waterborne diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea.

Dr. Afriye called on the leadership and members of the community to cooperate with the contractors and workers who would be working on the e project.

Mr. Kwaku Akwantey and Mr. Razak Abdul Jibril, the Assembly Members for the Seniagya West and Seniagya East Electoral Areas respectively, commended the MP for the support and pledged their commitment in ensuring the successful implementation and sustainability of the project.

Nana Osei Serebour, the Chief of Seniagya also praised the MP for the gesture and called on the community members and all stakeholders to ensure its proper maintenance.

Relatedly, the MP donated GH¢ 30, 000.00 to the constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and 500 cooking stoves to some delegates and officials of the party, Assembly Members and some community members across the District.
