A retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice V.C.R.A.C Crabbe has called on Parliament to allow some Parliamentarians who have a difficulty expressing themselves in the English language to contribute in their local dialect.

According to Justice Crabbe, there shouldn’t be any difficulty in allowing Members of Parliament contribute to debates in their local languages via an interpreter.

His comments come days after the MP for Akwatia Mercy Ama Sey was mocked on social media for expressing herself poorly in English during an public event.

But speaking on Morning Starr Tuesday, Justice Crabbe told host Francis Abban that leaders who decide to express themselves in English must learn to speak the language well.

“As an MP or leader, if you choose to speak English or any local language, you should speak it properly…I do not see why we cannot speak our local languages in our parliament house.

“An MP may be able to express himself or herself better in the local dialect,” Justice Crabbe said. Justice Crabbe added that people must stop paying attention to paper qualification which is affecting the working population.

“We pay too much attention to paper qualification… Some people do not have Paper qualification but rather have brains.”
