MTN donates incubator to KNUST hospital

Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) Ghana Foundation, on Friday donated incubator to the Neo Natal Intensive Unit of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital.

The equipment which was presented to the hospital authorities by Professor Jacob Plange Rhule, Board Member of the Foundation, in Kumasi worth 12,500 Ghana cedis.

These are contained in a statement signed by Mrs Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Senior Communications Manager at the Corporate Division of MTN Ghana Limited, copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi.

It said: “This follows earlier donations of an incubator to the Atibie Government Hospital in Kwahu and provision of medical equipment to Kotokuom and Wassa Dunkwa Health Centers as well as the refurbishment of the maternity block of the Effie Nkwanta Government Hospital in Takorad.”

The statement said MTN’s support to the hospital was part of its vision of enriching the lives of communities in which MTN operates.

It said, “we consider this support very crucial considering the fact that the KNUST Hospital is the second largest in the Ashanti Region with a Neonatal Unit, and may be receiving referrals from the neighboring and surrounding health posts. We believe that this intervention will help save the lives of many babies, who need this equipment for their survival, and who will grow up to be future leaders of this great nation”.

The statement said Prof Rhule urged the hospital authorities to ensure regular maintenance of the equipment.

It said Dr. Yaw Bio, Medical Director of the hospital, thanked MTN for the gesture, which he said came at an opportune time to the Neo Natal Unit that registered about 1,500 births last year.

The statement said since its establishment in 2007, the MTN Ghana Foundation has invested about 6.8 million Ghana cedis in community development and health projects, including support to the Korle Bu Maternity Block, the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital and the Kpedze Health Center.
