Mahama, Akufo-Addo just like Picanto and Old Golf – Ghanaians blast over galamsey fight

Both administrations are basically similar, as far as the fight against galamsey is concerned, some Ghanaians on social media platform Twitter have said.

Former President John Mahama, in their view, barely brought up the subject, neither did he introduce policies to curb the menace, but in President Akufo-Addo’s case, he raised hopes, put in place task forces and many more, only to end up making things worse.

The issue of galamsey has been in the headlines rather strongly in recent times, particularly after news went rife about the disappearance of some 500 excavators seized from illegal miners and the alleged involvement of some government officials in illegal mining activities.

Many have castigated the NPP government for looking on ‘unperturbed’ whilst many of their members continue to promote the canker, while also referring the NDC to happenings under its administration where initiatives including the Youth In Mining Module' were introduced.

On Sunday as a matter of fact, the NDC, held a press conference at the banks of River Pra in the Central Region to condemn the fast-rising pace of galamsey in the country, accounting for the pollution of majority of the country’s water bodies.

They cited President Akufo-Addo’s pledge to fight galamsey and make Ghana green again, putting his presidency on the line and also accused the President of failing and disappointing Ghanaians.

Twitter users took to the platform to pen down their views on the ongoing debate. For them, comparing both parties is barely anything should look at, especially because both parties cannot boast of any substantial results as far as ridding the country of the menace is concerned.

“NPP tried and failed, NDC didn’t even try,” another tweep said.

“Did Mahama even fight it in the first place? Don’t remember when and where though but Akufo-Addo’s people (ministers) have failed him too,” yet another wrote.
