Mahama-Bawumia Debate: A driver’s mate cannot debate an experienced driver - Ato Forson

The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has firmly stated that the flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, will not participate in a debate with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to Dr. Forson, the NDC has capable individuals such as Isaac Adongo and Ricketts-Hagan to engage Dr. Bawumia in debate, not the flagbearer.

He argued that Dr. Bawumia, who described himself as a "driver's mate," is not on the same level as the experienced "driver," John Mahama, hence the refusal to engage in a debate.

“Mr. Speaker, monkeys, they say, play by sizes. How can a driver’s mate debate an experienced driver? In this House, the Spokesperson for the Minority on Finance is Honourable Adongo. The Spokesperson for the Minority on the Economy is Honourable Kwaku Ricketts-Hagan, and the Spokesperson for the Budget for the Minority is Honourable Ampem Darko.

“We all know that the Chairman of the Economic Management Team is the Vice President, so the Vice President can only debate Honourable Adongo. He should debate Honourable Adongo or Honourable Ricketts-Hagan. A driver’s mate cannot debate an experienced driver. That is the fact. So, we throw the challenge: he should debate Honourable Adongo first, Honourable Ampem second, Honourable Ricketts Hagan third, before considering a debate with former President John Mahama" he said in Parliament on Wednesday 24, 2024.

His comment comes after the Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, challenged the NDC’s flagbearer, John Mahama, to participate in a debate, stating that it will be a crucial factor for Ghanaians in deciding their vote in the upcoming 2024 election in December.

According to him, the debate will be the only way for Ghanaians to compare and contrast which party truly deserves to win the 2024 elections.
