The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has shared information on the decision of members of the Mahama Transition Team regarding their compensation.

He explained that the team has decided that they will not receive any form of payment for the services they are rendering.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Friday, December 13, 2024, Ablakwa explained that the Mahama Transition Team decided to offer their services sacrificially for the good of the nation, and as a result, will not accept any per diems after completing their work.

“Yesterday, I picked up very good news from the Transition Team and I want to commend the team led by Julius Debrah. They have decided that they will not accept per diems, and they will not accept any food not even water at their meetings. Their working practice and everything they are doing is sacrificial and they are not going to be a burden on the state,” he said.

According to the lawmaker, the decision has been formally communicated to the Transition Team of the outgoing NPP government.

Commending his comrades for their public service, Ablakwa stated that this decision reflects the incoming NDC government’s commitment to protecting state funds and ensuring the establishment of a government that will prioritise the welfare of the citizenry.

“They have formally communicated that to the NPP side of the Transition Team and informed the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare. I want to salute our Transition Team because these are things we want to hear and see and that is public service. It should be about improving the lives of the people and enhancing their welfare, not about self-aggrandizement where you come to feed fat but your people are impoverished and their lives ruined.”

He added, “I want to commend the Transition Team for this decision they have taken. Clearly, there will be no budgets, or expenditures for the work they are doing and that should be the spirit that should guide us as we prepare to take over the government.”

The Mahama Transition Team led by Co-Chairperson, Julius Debrah, consists of Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, Dr. Callistus Mahama, Dr. Valerie Sawyer, Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Mahama Ayariga, Goosie Tanoh and Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

The team will facilitate the transition process in accordance with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (ACT 845) and will work closely with representatives of the outgoing government to ensure a smooth and orderly handover of political power.
