Mahama Welcomes Office Of Accountability

The Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Hon. John Dramani Mahama has described the setting up of a code of ethics at the office of the president as good and in the right direction.

He however stated that, the issue of initiating a code of ethics to monitor the official conducts of government officials is long overdue even in the era of the NDC government. Hon Mahama suggested that, instead of spending huge sums of money to set up a whole office and recruit new officials to man it, the government could rather use the money to strengthen the serious fraud office and the commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice. He said the two organisations are mandated by the constitution, to investigate fraud, but they lack the power to initiate prosecutions against culprits. He therefore called on the government to strengthen the two bodies, to make them independent in their duties.

Hon. John Mahama further stated that, government cannot continue to incur a whooping sum of ?50 Billion to subsidise fuel products per month, and therefore he expects an imminent increase in the prices of fuel. He stated that, government must be cautious of whatever amount it would like to increase petroleum prices to, and urged the government to be mindful of the plight of the populace.
