Popular NDC elder, Ama Benyiwa-Doe, has said she suspects President John Mahama appointed her onto the Council of State in order to tame her.

According to her, she misses being on radio and taking part in heated political discussions.

‘AMA Chavez’ as she was affectionately called, was popular for her often verbal confrontations with ace journalist Kweku Baako Junior over political discussions on Accra-based Peace FM on Wednesdays.

Speaking to Joy FM Tuesday, Benyiwa-Doe said she sometimes regrets the level of acrimony in politics these days.

“Sometimes I wish I was not on the council of state. I wish I was on my own so I can do my own thing but I think the President took me there to maybe, tone me down for my old age.... Sometimes I wish I could give my comments on issues but as a member of the council of state, I wouldn’t want to say anything that will bring disrepute to my political party,” she said.

She added: “I think we should stay away from this political antagonism, but I think people take delight in deliberately provoking the party in government. I think my people have restrained themselves so far which I think is good for the country".
