A leading member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has questioned President-elect John Mahama's decision to appoint an advisor for the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) much-touted 24-Hour Economy policy.
As part of his initial appointments, President-elect Mahama has named the venerable and experienced politician and lawyer Goozie Augustus Tannoh as Presidential Advisor responsible for the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development.
However, speaking on TV3, in an interview monitored by Ghanaweb, Solomon Owusu, known for his fiery political commentary, described the appointment as unnecessary.
“In a situation where you come into office and, within the twinkle of an eye, the number of people lobbying is overwhelming, I don’t envy President-elect John Mahama. That is why you begin to see such appointments as Government Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy... Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Where is this appointment coming from? Everything is wrong with that. The 24-Hour Economy— is it an institution or a ministry that requires an advisor who will draw a salary from the state?” he questioned.
Solomon Owusu continued: “You cannot tell us that you are going to appoint 60 ministers and then alternatively create more positions for them in such roles. We must help [President Mahama] to succeed. And helping him succeed means, as citizens, we must call him out in areas we believe could lead to similar outcomes as those we witnessed under President Akufo-Addo.”
