The National Youth Organizer of the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Sammi Awuku has said President John Mahama’s conduct less than two months to the crucial December 7 elections, suggests he has some assured votes already to make him win the poll.
According to him, a lot of Ghanaians are expressing sentiments over the increasingly harsh economic situation they have been plunged into by the Mahama-led administration for the past four years, but intriguingly the president appears not bothered and is piling more hardship on the already burdened citizenry.
Fuel prices have been increased between 8-11%. Diesel prices have seen an increase of between 8-11% on current ex pump prices while petrol prices have seen between 3-5% across most BDCs and OMCs.
Speaking on Peace FM Tuesday, the NPP Youth Leader said Ghanaians are set to vote out the incompetent Maahama-led government, because of the worsening economic situation but strangely the president is seeing things differently and going round expressing confidence of winning the 2016 election.
“Increment of petrol prices goes to the core of the survival of many Ghanaians. Where we’ve gotten to as a people, it looks as if the NDC has locked us in a gas chamber and turned it on. I’m surprised the way President Mahama is behaving…it is as if he has some assured votes somewhere, because I cannot understand what is happening. At a time that people are struggling to make ends meet under this harsh economic situation, and when you (Mahama) are standing for re-election less than two months from now, you go ahead and increase fuel prices. This is why I say, it will take only someone who has some assured votes somewhere to act the way Mahama is behaving.”
