Former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs says those contesting former President Mahama for the flagbearership post of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are only in for running mate positions.

He said former President is the obvious choice of the party so those challenging him only want to make themselves eligible for running mate position.

“All those attacking Mahama are only making Mahama more and more popular. If they go out and campaign without Mahama’s name, they would be lost totally and so have decided to mention his name and attack him just to make him popular. In fact, all these people are contesting him because they want to be running mate for Mahama” he said on Adom FM’s yesterday.

Mr. Allotey Jacobs’ reactions follow comments by Augustus Goosie Tanoh who is also considering a run for the Presidency in 2020 on the ticket of the NDC, that it’s not the right time for former President John Dramani Mahama to lead the party in 2020.

But Allotey Jacobs said Goosie Tanoh and other candidates were just making ugly noises.

He indicated that none of the names that has come up so far- Joshua Alabi, Sylvester Mensah, Alban Bagbin, Stephen Atubiga, Spio Garbrah- was capable of defeating John Mahama in the race.

Allotey Jacobs was certain that former President Mahama will emerge the presidential candidate for the NDC party.
