2012 Presidential running mate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Madam Eva Lokko, has begged to differ with President John Dramani Mahama on his assertion that Ghanaians are cynical about the future of the country and rather urged the President to assess the doubts of Ghanaians on the basis of his (Mahama’s) achievement within the time frame he promised to deliver.
President Mahama made the call at the dedication of the Lord's Temple of the Revival Restoration Centre (RCC) of the Assemblies of God Church at Roman Ridge in Accra on Saturday.
Again, he asked Ghanaians to contribute their quota to the growth of the country since the development effort was a shared responsibility; reminding Ghanaians that all the developed nations and strong economies such as Japan and China; rode on the faith and contribution of their people.
But the Former Director-General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), speaking to the issue on Hot Fm, described the president’s remarks as “unfortunate”.
She opined that President Mahama may have been fed with the wrong information about the current socio-economic state of the country, leading him to accuse Ghanaians of being ungrateful.
“...Ghanaians are complaining due to the socio-economic condition of living…the situation in the market keeps worsening every day as prices of goods keep shooting up. President Mahama should look at the hike in utility bills which is making living condition of Ghanaians bitter...I have not heard the President said that but if he indeed said this, then he does not know what is going on in the country,” she surmised.
She asserted that the believe and faith in the well-being of the country does not lie in the conviction of President Mahama, but rather in the works and measures the President puts in place.
“...at least Ghanaians must see the President doing something and then the people will believe in the country because the experience of life is through their eyes and stomach; people can see when something is done and they can feel when they are hungry...when things keep getting up every day, the conclusion will be that, the President can’t do it because there is no sign or evidence in the lives of Ghanaians to appreciate the effort of the government,” she averred.
