President John Mahama on Tuesday filed his 2012 Tax returns at the Tax Kinbu Office of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority Office in Accra.
Speaking to Joy News’ Presidential Correspondent, Seth Kwame Boateng, the President stressed the need for all Ghanaians to pay their taxes in other to enhance the country’s growth and development.
“All the good things that we want; the roads, utility services and others come from our taxes and we can only get them when we pay our taxes. I hope my symbolic gesture will help the Ghana Revenue Authority in their public education and awareness that everybody should pay their taxes,” he noted.
Asked why he should pay taxes since the president doesn’t have to do so, by law, the President explained that “even as president, if you have any other income, apart from your official income, you are supposed to pay tax”.
